Message from Head of the Department

Dr. Luis Lanca

Welcome to the Radiography & Medical Imaging Department at Fatima College of Health Sciences (FCHS). Medical Imaging is one of the most innovative and rapidly advancing areas of healthcare, combining science, technology, and compassion to improve lives. Our students gain comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and imaging science while mastering advanced imaging technologies such as X-ray, CT, MRI, and Ultrasound. With a strong foundation in radiation safety, patient care, and ethical practice, graduates are prepared to deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.

At FCHS, we prepare future radiographers to think critically, communicate effectively, and apply evidence-based practice across a range of clinical settings. Students learn to evaluate and optimize imaging protocols, integrate AI-assisted imaging to enhance diagnostic accuracy and patient safety, and solve complex clinical problems through research, innovation, and critical analysis.
Our program blends theory with hands-on clinical experience, equipping students to become competent, reflective, and forward-thinking medical imaging professionals ready to contribute to the UAE’s growing healthcare system and to the global radiography and healthcare community.

“Empowering future radiographers through innovation, research, and compassionate care”

The Bachelor of Medical Imaging at Fatima College of Health Sciences (FCHS) prepares students to become competent, ethical, and technologically skilled medical imaging professionals who meet local and international standards. The program supports FCHS’s vision to be the foremost provider of excellence in health sciences education in the UAE and the GCC region.
Radiographers are vital members of the healthcare team who work collaboratively with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to perform a wide range of diagnostic examinations. They play a pivotal role in acquiring, optimizing, and interpreting medical images to assist in patient diagnosis, treatment planning, and disease monitoring. Students in the program gain hands-on experience in multiple imaging modalities, including general radiography (X-ray), digital fluoroscopy and vascular imaging, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound (US), mammography, bone mineral densitometry (BMD), and nuclear medicine.
Throughout the four-year program, students build a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiation physics, and imaging science, developing the ability to integrate theory with practice. Learning emphasizes radiation safety, patient care, ethical responsibility, and evidence-based decision-making, ensuring graduates deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging with professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
The program also reflects the rapid evolution of imaging technology, incorporating AI-assisted imaging, quality assurance, and image analysis to enhance diagnostic precision and efficiency. Students are encouraged to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to evaluate imaging system performance, identify artifacts, and recommend protocol improvements that optimize diagnostic outcomes.
In the final year, students conduct applied research projects that foster innovation and support the advancement of medical imaging practices across clinical and academic settings.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Medical Imaging program are well-equipped to pursue careers in hospitals, clinics, and research centers, contributing to the continuous improvement of healthcare quality and patient outcomes in the UAE and beyond.
