Pharmacy




Pharmacists are experts in medicines and their use. They have a unique set of skills and knowledge, they train as scientists a​nd clinicians. They use this scientific knowledge to advise patients how to take their medicines and make recommendations on the best medicine for particular conditions and diseases.

 

FCHS Pharmacy Program offers two degrees:

       ·         Bachelor of Pharmacy

       ·         Higher Diploma of Pharmacy

 

 

Admission requirement

       ·         Year 12 subjects to include Maths and Science (Biology and Chemistry) 

       ·         For advanced stream Year 12 students with an overall average equal or above 80%

       ·         For regular streams: overall average equal or above 85%

       ·         English EMSAT ˃1100 or its equivalent score in IELTS, Band 5

       ·         Subject EMSATs will be taken into consideration

       ·         Students who have not completed the necessary High school courses required by the Pharmacy Program will need to                   take preparatory courses provided by FCHS.

 

 

Curriculum Design

The curriculum has six streams of study:

1. Enabling Sciences (chemistry, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology and pharmacology) integrated with body systems and drug action.


2. Pharmacy Practice - the clinical application of the enabling sciences


3. Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences - focuses on formulation and manufacture of medicines, pharmacokinetics and various dosage forms within context.


4. Integrated Therapeutics - clinical and therapeutic sciences which deals with major disease states, epidemiology, their diagnosis, the chemistry, pharmaceutics and pharmacology of medicines used to treat these conditions and the clinical practice aspects of treating the whole patient.


5. Professional Experiential placements - students undertake work placements in community and hospitals pharmacies through the professional experience placements. The placements provide an understanding of the processes involved in, for example, providing primary health care, drug information, and clinical pharmacy services.


6. Inquiry and Innovation - graduation project.

College Elective Requirements (CER): Students must complete 3 credit hours from available elective courses offered by other disciplines.

 

Major Core Requirements (MCR): 48 credit hours for the Higher Diploma and 92 credit hours for the Bachelor of Pharmacy Program.

 

Major Elective Requirements (MER): Higher Diploma students must complete ONE (2 credit hours) Pharmacy Program Major Elective and Bachelor of Pharmacy students are required to complete TWO (2 credit hours) Pharmacy Program Major Elective.
